From September 2016 the Olive AP Academy – Havering in Hornchurch, which includes the Robert Beard Youth Centre, will support up to 60 secondary school-aged young people who have left mainstream education and provide specialist help for pupils found to have additional learning needs such as dyslexia.
On 3 November the academy celebrated its official launch – an opportunity for guests to enjoy displays of student work and to learn more about plans for the main Havering site and the vision of the academy.
The academy provides a broad curriculum to a diverse group of young people currently across two sites: the Olive AP Academy – Havering in Hornchurch and the Olive AP Academy – Havering Albert Road Annexe. Each site caters specifically for the identified needs of individual pupils who are aged between 11 and 16. Headteacher Paul Phillips leads an experienced team who support students to reach their full potential and prepare them for a return to mainstream education.
